La Gritta have an extensive wine list. This month we have updated the list removing some wine and adding a new addition.

Do you know how wine are classified?

In Spain there is a large number and variety of wines from different parts of Spain. These wines can be distinguished firstly by grapes composition, and secondly, by were are prepared.

The clasification of wines for the duration of elaboration:

  • Young (or year): wine has not spent any time in the barrel or has spent so little that he can not be considered Crianza.
  • Crianza: has spent between 6 and 12 months in the barrel. Also keep in mind that this type of wine remains rested in the bottle until the third year after processing. Therefore at least until it has 3 months and a half or 4 it isn’t commercialized.
  • Reserva: at least 1 year in barrel and as breeding, resting in the bottle until three years have elapsed since its preparation.
  • Gran Reserva: at least 18 months in the barrel and the remaining time in the bottle. This type of wine can be marketed after the sixth year in the bottle. At this stage only reach the exceptional vintages.

In La Gritta we can find this differents wine clasificated by the grape:

  • Tempranillo: The most widespread variety and grape typical of our country. It is so called because the grapes are harvested earlier than other varieties (Example: Vega Sicilia «Unique» or Gran Reserva Vina Pomal)
  • Garnacha: it is another typical grape of our country, cultivated with particular intensity in the regions of north-east (La Rioja, Navarra, Aragon and Cataluña). (Example: Marqués de Murrieta).
  • Cabernet Sauvignon: This is probably the most widespread French grape and grape used in many of the best red wines in the world. (Example: Summum, organic wine Mallorca)
  • Syrah: French grape widespread. The properties of this variety are very dependent on where it is grown, and climate. (Example: Can Coleto Mediterrani, organic wine Mallorca)
  • Others In La Gritta: grapes Graciano, Mazuelo, Merlot, … (Example: Conde de San Cristobal, Ribera del Duero).

Denomination of Origin

An appellation of origin is a specific area where it occurs and produces an agricultural or food product whose characteristics are given by the geographical location.

The best wines with denomination of Origin in Spain are Ribera del Duero and Rioja Crianza.  In La Gritta, we have a variety of these 2 types of wines which we recommend: Conde de San Cristobal, a Ribera del Duero and Muga a Rioja Crianza Tempranillo.

La Gritta also have a large selection of wines from Mallorca as Macia Batle or Ses Nines Sauvignon Blanc.
